The University of Washington Radiochemistry Resources (UWRR) is a specialized facility dedicated to the production and development of radiopharmaceuticals for human studies.
The UWRR is run by the Department of Radiology is located in the University of Washington Health Sciences Building. The UWRR facility occupies seven laboratories with 2800 square feet of floor space. The laboratories are designed to facilitate all types of basic and translational imaging research.
The facility is equipped with a Siemens RDS-111 cyclotron capable of producing 11 MeV protons for target irradiation. Potential isotopes generated include 18F, 11C, 13N and 15O
The facility also includes the following:
- radiochemistry labs equipped with hot cells
- four hot cells to facilitate production at high radiation levels
- organic chemistry labs
- GLP/GMP compliant pharmaceutical production clean room (120 ft2)
- two synthesis boxes (GE TracerLab FX/FN and GE FastLab) for automated radiopharmaceutical synthesis and purification
- Analytical chemistry laboratory
- Analytical HPLCs with UV and radiation detection
- gas chromatography with EI/ion trap mass detection
- gamma counter for identification and quantitation of radioactive samples
This facility is currently licensed by the State of Washington for the manufacture of radiopharmaceuticals (license no. PHMF.FX.60522701).
Benefits
Expertise
The UWRR is maintained at the highest standards by a full-time dedicated staff of four radio-chemists. Our team provides support and collaboration for specific research needs, including custom radiochemical syntheses, purification, and analytical method development, as well as IND/CMC generation. Clinical trial support encompasses production of established in-house radiotracers as well as development of novel biomarkers.
