Research

Research facilities available at University of Washington Medical Center include: Diagnostic Imaging Science Center (DISC). Some of the research we do through Neuroradiology includes: molecular imaging, functional MR, perfusion MR imaging, MR vascular imaging and MR spectroscopy studies. There are also a 4.7T 30 cm bore system and a 7T small bore system for small animal and in vitro research. Additional research facilities include a small animal imaging laboratory, radiochemistry laboratories, digital imaging laboratories, and extensive computer and support facilities. A cyclotron and PET scanner is available for research. In addition, research support and collaboration exists between the Department of Radiology and multiple basic science departments located on the main campus of the University such as Physics, Biomedical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering. Strong research collaborations exist between neuroradiology and other clinical science departments, including the Departments of Neurological Surgery, Neurology, Otolaryngology, Psychiatry and Clinical Psychology, Vascular Surgery, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine and others.

Federally funded projects for research in AIDS, Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, cerebrovascular atherosclerosis, multiple sclerosis, learning disabilities and children with autism are currently being carried out.

Vascular Imaging Laboratory

Vascular Imaging Laboratory is comprised of a multi-disciplinary group of researchers who are dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge, education, and training in the fields of magnetic resonance imaging and vascular medicine.
