Dr. Ramesh Iyer appointed as Section Chief of Pediatric Radiology and Site Director for Seattle Children’s Hospital

He has dark hair, and a wide smile.The UW Department of Radiology is pleased to announce that Professor and Vice-Chair of Radiology Ramesh Iyer, M.D., MBA, has been appointed as Section Chief of Pediatric Radiology, and Site Director for Seattle Children’s Hospital (SCH), effective February 1, 2024.  

As Section Chief, Dr. Iyer will ensure that the clinical, teaching, and research imperatives of Pediatric Radiology are attained, support and encourage the academic efforts of the Pediatric Radiology faculty members, collaborate with other sections, departments, and laboratories and develop curriculum for the education of staff, trainees, and radiologists. 

As the new Site Director for SCH, Dr. Iyer will be responsible for oversight of all professional and administrative activities within the Department of Radiology at SCH. He will participate in administration of the department through cooperation with the Nursing Service and Hospital Administration in matters affecting patient care, including personnel, supplies, special regulations, standing orders and techniques. 

Dr. Iyer is board-certified in Diagnostic Radiology, Pediatric Radiology, and Neuroradiology. His professional interests include quality improvement and educational administration. He has coauthored over 150 peer-reviewed journal publications and the textbook Pediatric Imaging: The Essentials. 

Dr. Iyer grew up in Rochester, NY. He earned his bachelor’s degree at Brown University and his M.D. at New York University (NYU). He completed his radiology residency at the University of Washington and his fellowship in pediatric radiology at Seattle Children’s Hospital.
