Diversity & Inclusion
It is our mission to recruit the brightest, most diverse and emotionally mature medical students to our residency. Along with leaders from our departments across the School of Medicine and the University as a whole, we are committed to expanding the diversity of our resident body. Our local and regional communities benefit from being served by physicians who are racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse. Furthermore, our own medical system benefits substantially from the collective knowledge of a diverse group for decision-making and process improvement. We recognize the value of all types of diversity including gender, geographic origin, career goals, background, ethnicity, disability, LGBTQ, military status, and extracurricular interests.
Motivated by our residents, our residency program’s mission and that of the University, our department leadership has organized a faculty development lecture series that we plan to continue in a recurring fashion. This lecture series includes these phenomenal individuals and topics:
Carolyn Meltzer, MD, Chair of Radiology, Emory Medical School – Gender and equity
Efren J Flores, MD, Officer for Community Health & Equity, Massachusetts General Hospital – Healthcare disparities
Leo Morales, MD, PhD, Professor and Chief Diversity Officer, Director, Center for Health Equity, Diversity and Inclusion – Healthcare disparities
Janice Sabin, PhD, MSW, Research Associate Professor, University of Washington School of Medicine, Center for Health Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (CEDI) – Implicit bias
Edwin Lindo, JD, Lecturer, Center for Leadership and Innovation – Antiracism
