Breast Imaging Fellowship

OVERVIEW

The Department of Diagnostic Radiology at the University of Washington offers three yearly Fellowship positions in Breast Imaging, beginning July 1st of each year.

The Department of Radiology’s Breast Imaging Section has six clinical faculty members who practice at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance’s Breast Center, and one full-time research faculty member. The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, a state-of-the-art research facility and clinic, is a partnership among The University of Washington, Seattle Children’s Hospital, and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

The Fellowship offers 12 months of comprehensive training in all aspects of breast imaging including:

  • Screening and diagnostic mammography

  • Breast ultrasound

  • Breast MRI

  • Digital breast tomosynthesis

  • Percutaneous interventions guided by mammography, ultrasound, and MRI

Fellows will participate in multidisciplinary conferences, teaching, clinical research, and the development of new imaging / interventional tools. They will also have the opportunity to attend national radiology meetings.  Fellows will also be involved in a number of ongoing clinical research trials performed at the SCCA.

THE APPLICATION PROCESS

We will begin accepting applications for our 2019-2020 Breast Imaging Fellowship positions on September 5, 2017.  Our Application deadline is Monday, November 13, 2017.

The University of Washington Breast Imaging Fellowship participates in the Match, which is sponsored by the Society of Breast Imaging and is managed by the National Resident Matching Program. In order to become a fellow with the University of Washington, you must register with the Radiology Match.

To apply for a fellowship position, please submit the following application materials via email or mail:

  • Your current CV (include national citizenship, ABR status, and current medical licenses)

  • 3 letters of recommendation  (addressed to Section Chief, Janie M. Lee, MD, MSc)

  • One-page personal statement (including reason(s) for choosing Breast Imaging as a sub-specialty, training at UW, and long-term career goals)

  • USMLE scores (unofficial copy) or COMLEX equivalent, and an ECFMG certificate (for foreign applicants)

You will be contacted via email with confirmation of the receipt of your application materials and about arranging an interview. We anticipate inviting qualified candidates in December for interviews in mid-January.

Please note: The University of Washington does not allocate funds for travel, lodging, or other expenses incurred by visiting fellowship and residency applicants.

REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYMENT
All offers of employment are contingent upon the successful receipt of the following documents:

  • Radiology board certification or eligibility

  • Washington state medical license

  • Approved work visa (for foreign applicants)

MATCH INFORMATION

Breast Imaging has implemented an All In Policy for the Match. This means that programs participating in the Match cannot extend any offers to candidates outside of the Match. Applicants can withdraw from the Match prior to the ranking deadline if they accept a position outside of the Match.

  • April 26, 2017: Ranking opens
  • May 31, 2017: Ranking order list deadline
  • June 14, 2017: Match day
  • July 1, 2018: Training begins

  Cost of the Match:

Applicants will pay a $75 registration fee to register for the Match.
