Fellowship
Thank you for your interest in the Breast Imaging Fellowship at the University of Washington Department of Radiology Breast Imaging Section, located at the Fred Hutch Cancer Center in Seattle, WA.
OVERVIEW
The Department of Radiology’s Breast Imaging Section has seven clinical faculty members who practice at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center’s Breast Center, and one full-time research faculty member. The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, a state-of-the-art research facility and clinic, is a partnership with The University of Washington.
The Fellowship offers 12 months of comprehensive training in all aspects of breast imaging including:

Screening and diagnostic mammography

Breast ultrasound
-
Breast MRI
-
Digital breast tomosynthesis
-
Percutaneous interventions guided by mammography, ultrasound, and MRI
Fellows will participate in multidisciplinary conferences, teaching, clinical research, and the development of new imaging / interventional tools. They will also have the opportunity to attend national radiology meetings. Fellows will also be involved in a number of ongoing clinical research trials performed at the FHCC.

The University of Washington Breast Imaging Fellowship participates in the Match, which is sponsored by the Society of Breast Imaging (SBI) and is managed by the National Resident Matching Program. In order to become a fellow with the University of Washington, you must register with the Radiology Match.
We use the SBI Universal Application. To apply for a fellowship position, please submit the universal application via email. This should also include:

3 letters of recommendation (addressed to Section Chief, Janie M. Lee, MD, MSc). Please be sure that one is from your residency program director.

One-page personal statement (including reason(s) for choosing Breast Imaging as a sub-specialty, training at UW, and long-term career goals)

USMLE scores (unofficial copy) or COMLEX equivalent, and an ECFMG certificate (for foreign applicants)

REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYMENT

- COVID-19 Vaccine Requirement: Per Washington State Governor Jay Inslee’s Proclamation 21-14.1, employees of higher education and healthcare institutions must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 no later than October 18, 2021 unless a medical or religious exemption is approved. Being fully vaccinated means that an individual is at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. MATCH INFORMATION
Breast Imaging has implemented an All In Policy for the Match. This means that programs participating in the Match cannot extend any offers to candidates outside of the Match. Applicants can withdraw from the Match prior to the ranking deadline if they accept a position outside of the Match.

- March 2025: Match opens (specific date TBA)
- March 31, 2025: Last day of interview period
- April 2025 Ranking opens (specific date TBA)
- May 2025: Ranking closes (specific date TBA)
- June 2025: Match Day (specific date TBA)
- July 1, 2026: Training begins
