UW Radiology team awarded Best 2021 JCAT Article with SABI Authorship

UW Radiology faculty, staff, and alum were awarded “Best 2021 JCAT Article with SABI Authorship as Voted by the Editors” by the Journal of Computer Assisted Tomography (JCAT) for their article Accuracy of Dual-Energy CT Techniques for Fat Quantification in Comparison with MR Proton Density Fat Fraction and Single-Energy CT in an Anthropomorphic Phantom Environment.

The article was authored by Zi Jun Wu, M.D., Daniel S. Hippe, M.S., David A. Zamora, M.S., Noah Briller, R.T., Kathan A. Amin, M.D., Orpheus Kolokythas, M.D. and Achille Mileto, M.D., and was published in JCAT’s November/December 2021 issue.

“Our study showed that contrast enhanced dual-energy computed tomography, even when done for other purposes, for example in the setting of emergency or other unrelated indications, is able to accurately quantify the fat content in the liver. It can therefore serve as an opportunistic screening method for hepatic steatosis without increasing radiation or cost for a separate exam,” Dr. Kolokythas said.

Dr. Kolokythas accepted the award on behalf of the research team at the Society for Advanced Body Imaging (SABI) Annual Meeting Awards Dinner in October 2022.
