This free clinic is designed to help remove barriers to healthcare, especially for people who have low income or are under/uninsured. The event ran from April 27th through 30th to great success and high demand for all health services, including those of our breast clinicians. Breast imaging section chief Dr. Janie Lee said her team not only screens people, it connects them with free follow up care if anything is found, covering what she terms the full “episode” of care and not just the scan. “That makes a difference because people who have no insurance, or insurance with very high co-pays, sometimes are more reluctant to initiate care because they worry about the downstream costs”, she states. The mobile mammography van provided 203 total screening mammograms over the duration of the 4-day clinic.
