Welcome from the Chair
Welcome to the Department of Radiology website. Our department is comprised of nationally and internationally respected faculty, vital research activities which encompass basic translational outcomes and clinical research, and our outstanding fellowship and residency training programs. The Department of Radiology is committed to a culture of diversity, inclusion, and equity in patient care, education, and discovery.
Our department has 160 clinical and research faculty – with highly trained subspecialists covering all aspects of diagnostic, interventional, and nuclear medicine radiology – including abdominal imaging, breast imaging, emergency radiology, vascular and interventional radiology, musculoskeletal, neuroradiology, nuclear medicine, pediatric radiology, and thoracic imaging. Our department is made up of physicians, physician assistants, advanced registered nurse practitioners, scientists, and medical physicists, 109 residents, fellows, and post-doctoral students, as well as an incredibly talented staff and leadership team.
The Department of Radiology covers many sites including the University of Washington Medical Center (Montlake, Northwest, Roosevelt and Eastside clinics), Harborview Medical Center, Veteran’s Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, as well as an affiliate agreement for training with Seattle Children’s Hospital. All UW faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.
UW School of Medicine is a top program, with UW Medical Center ranked #1 in Washington. We provide services to the Pacific Northwest (WWAMI – Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho), but also to patients from all other states, Canada, Asia, Africa, and other regions of the world. We are recognized for patient and family-centered care, and our core value is to provide the best care for every patient every time.
We are proud of our research endeavors, which aim at providing healthcare that is more accessible, less invasive, at a lower cost, and with optimal outcomes. We are ranked #13 in NIH funds among academic institutions.
Our valued educational programs are geared toward creating physicians and scientists who care deeply and see innovation as central to the challenges of the future.
With highly subspecialized radiologists and researchers, state-of-the-art imaging technology, and our dedicated team comprised of faculty, trainees, and staff, we are well positioned to carry out the Mission and Vision of the Radiology Department.
The Department of Radiology is committed to embracing Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in everything we do. Our faculty, trainees, and staff meet regularly in forums and participate in developing programs and initiatives to educate members of our department to value diversity and foster inclusion in the recruitment and retention of faculty and staff, recognition, and development of a pipeline to recruit and retain a diverse workforce that reflects the diversity of our patients.
Finally, our greatest joy is in accomplishing more together, with the power of partnering. As you explore our website and examine the work that we do, please contact us if you are interested in working with us or have suggestions on how we can further increase our impact.
