Biography

Growing up in San Diego, Dr. Andrews always considered Oregon and Washington—and, really, everything north of San Fransisco—as Canadian wilderness, but he’s now been in Seattle for more than 20 years and would never go back. He and his family enjoy skiing in the winter and wakeboarding in the summer.

Dr. R. Torrance (Torre) Andrews is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Radiology at the University of Washington and a member of the Interventional Radiology section. He previously served on the faculty at Johns Hopkins, Oregon Health & Science University (the Dotter Institute), and the University of California at Davis. He also spent several years in private practice at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle.

Although Dr. Andrews’ career has included all aspects of interventional radiology from intracranial interventions, aortic endografting, and the management of peripheral arterial disease, his primary clinical interest is the management of patients with end-stage liver disease, liver cancer, and liver transplant. He has also dedicated significant clinical and research effort to the management of uterine fibroids and pelvic venous diseases.

Dr. Andrews has been invited to lecture at over 120 local, national, and international meetings and has published more than 60 book chapters and medical journal articles. He has been recognized with many awards in his career, including Outstanding Teacher of the Year at Johns Hopkins and Procedural Educator of the year at UC Davis. He’s also been named one of Seattle’s Top Doctors nine times.

Dr. Andrews is a member of the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) and has had the honor of serving on or leading dozens of that Society’s committees and boards, including its Executive Committee.
