Biography
Dr. Rehani was awarded the 2020 UCSF Chancellor Award for Public service. In 2019, she was awarded the Silicon Woman of Influence Award by the Silicon Valley Business Journal and named in Rising Stars: 66 Leaders in Healthcare by the Becker’s Health Review. She was awarded the 25 Rising Stars in Medicine by Medscape in 2020 and 2018 Female Innovator of the Year by Women in Business Stevie Awards.
Dr. Rehani was an invited member of the Quantitative Biosciences Institute (QBI) Women Initiative at UCSF in association with United Nations (UN) women. Recognized for her impact in her field, Dr. Rehani was invited to give the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Annual Oration in Diagnostic Radiology in 2020. She has been a keynote and plenary speaker at several international and national conferences including the ASNR in 2022.
She was a co-investigator in two NIH intramural research projects on Computer Aided Detection, which she completed at the NIH Clinical Center. She was on the Editorial board of Journal of Global Radiology and reviewer for JAMA Neurology. She was invited to be a reviewer for global health grants at Centers for Scientific review for Fogarty National Institute of Health (NIH) in 2017.
Research Interests
Dr Rehani’s academic research focuses on understanding global health inequities and bridging gaps to improve imaging in underprivileged communities globally. She has been involved in global health projects for over 20 years. Her other research interests include stroke imaging and technology applications in imaging.
She is the Co-founder and President of a global health nonprofit, Health4theworld which is based on the principle of selfless service (seva) and inspired by her grandad’s story. Since 2017, Health4theworld’s global health work has impacted patients and doctors in low-resource communities in over 122 countries using online learning platforms, technological innovation, and humanitarian aid.
Education
Bhavya Rehani, MD is a Professor and Vice Chair of Global Affairs in the Department of Radiology at the University of Washington. Dr. Rehani did her Neuroradiology fellowship training at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and was an Associate Professor in Neuroradiology and Global Health Faculty at UCSF (University of California, San Francisco) before joining UW.
