New Breast Density Notification Law in Washington State
Washington state has a new breast density notification law, which requires facilities which perform mammography to notify women if they have dense breast tissue. Dr. Janie Lee discussed this new law with the UW Medicine Newsroom, saying that it’s “important for women to know that having dense breasts does not mean that you are automatically at high risk for developing breast cancer.” Dense breast tissue is commonly seen on mammography and is not abnormal – roughly half of all women have it.
