Assessment of the vascularity in the placenta on 3D ultrasound

Newer imaging techniques like 3D color Doppler and Bflow imaging can provide an estimate of the blood flow in the placenta. These techniques are much more sensitive to flow compared to routine color Doppler and power Doppler. Evaluation of the difference in the normal versus IUGR placentas will provide an additional parameter to diagnose or predict IUGR development.
