Dr. Hugh McGregor Named Section Chief 

The University of Washington (UW) Department of Radiology is pleased to announce the appointment of Associate Professor Dr. Hugh McGregor to the position of Section Chief of Vascular and Interventional Radiology within the UW School of Medicine. Dr. McGregor was previously the interim section chief for this section and began his permanent role earlier this month. 

Dr. McGregor is warm, collaborative, thoughtful, and inclusive. He leads by example, and he offers patient-focused service. We welcome his expertise in the field of radiology, especially in his research interest areas, which include prostate artery embolization (a minimally invasive treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia [BPH]), interventional oncology (including percutaneous liver, kidney, bone, and lung ablations and Y90 radioembolization), lymphatic interventions, treatment of pulmonary embolism, management of inferior vena cava filters and gallbladder cryoablation.   

Dr. McGregor received his medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and completed his Diagnostic Radiology residency at the University of California, San Francisco.  While a resident, Dr. McGregor received trainee research prizes at the annual Radiology Society of North America (RSNA) meetings (2015 and 2016) for his research focused on gallbladder cryoablation, minimally invasive treatment for gallbladder disease, and radiogenomics in dialysis arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs).   

As part of his new role, Dr. McGregor will work to ensure that the clinical, teaching and research imperatives for this section are attained, he will support and encourage the academic efforts of the section’s faculty members, develop curriculum, serve on the Department of Radiology Executive Committee, and create and uphold a diverse and inclusive environment.
