Gautham Reddy, MD, MPH

Biography

Dr. Reddy is a professor of radiology and vice chair for academic affairs and faculty development. He serves as the chair of the UW Senate Committee on Planning and Budgeting and is the immediate past chair of the UW Faculty Senate.

Board certified in diagnostic radiology, Dr. Reddy’s area of expertise is cardiothoracic imaging, and he is committed to quality and safety in patient care.  

His research has focused on cardiovascular imaging, including MRI assessment of physiology in congenital and acquired heart disease. During his time as a Radiological Society of North America Scholar, Dr. Reddy investigated coronary pathophysiology in myocardial diseases. He has also studied the use of coronary CT angiography and MR angiography in patients with ischemic heart disease. He is the co-author of more than 100 scientific articles, reviews, and book chapters, as well as three textbooks and an educational CD. He has presented 500 lectures at international, national, and regional conferences, and he has received six awards for teaching and mentoring.  

After obtaining degrees from Harvard University and George Washington University, Dr. Reddy trained at Thomas Jefferson University and the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). He held the roles of chief of cardiac and pulmonary imaging and director of the Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program at UCSF. After moving to UW, he served as the section chief of thoracic imaging and the vice chair for education in the Department of Radiology. In the UW School of Medicine, he is the imaging lead of the Human Form and Function (anatomy) curriculum and has served on the Executive Committee on Admissions, Student Progress Committee, Elected Faculty Council on University Relations, and Elected Faculty Council on Appointments & Promotions. 

Dr. Reddy is the immediate past chair of the American Heart Association’s Council on Cardiovascular Radiology and Intervention. He is a past president of the North American Society for Cardiovascular Imaging (NASCI), the Alliance of Clinician-Educators in Radiology (ACER), and the Pacific Northwest Radiological Society. He has been a member of the boards of the Association of University Radiologists, the Academy of Radiology Research, the UCSF Margulis Society, and the Harvard Alumni Association, and he has served on the Executive Council of the Society of Thoracic Radiology. He is a former deputy editor of the Journal of Thoracic Imaging and the Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging. He was the senior faculty advisor of the American Alliance of Academic Chief Residents in Radiology and a member of the Diagnostic Radiology Residency Review Committee of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. He has been the program chair for NASCI, ACER, the American Roentgen Ray Society Categorical Course, and the Washington State Radiological Society.
