UW Radiology

Why Choose UW Radiology

As the Department of Radiology continues to grow and meet the evolving landscape of the field, our culture of compliance, patient service, integrity, excellence, and professionalism are advanced through the enduring commitment to developing the next generation of radiologists.

Our department is comprised of nationally and internationally respected faculty, including highly trained subspecialists and medical physicists, and has supported students from across the country — their diverse perspectives enhance the overall learning experience.

Mission

To meet the clinical needs of the hospitals we serve, to train the practitioners and the leaders of tomorrow, and to advance the manner in which imaging and imaging sciences improve the human condition.

Vision

The UW Department of Radiology is the premier academic radiology program in the nation.  Our practice is at the highest levels of measurable success fiscally, clinically, academically, and in our chosen areas of research.  Through our involvement at the University of Washington and in WWAMI, we contribute to innovations in clinical practice throughout the region.  A key element in our success is the creation and maintenance of a workplace environment that is stimulating, challenging, collegial, and enjoyable for all our physicians and departmental staff.

UW Medicine

UW Medicine and UW Medical Center are nationally and internationally recognized for the high degree of healthcare services we provide to our patients. UW Medicine is Washington’s only health system that includes a top-rated medical school and an internationally recognized research center. UW Medicine’s mission is to improve the health of the public; this mission is advanced through our work in patient care, medical education and research.

Seattle

Land Acknowledgement: The University of Washington acknowledges the Coast Salish peoples of this land, the land which touches the shared waters of all tribes and bands within the Suquamish, Tulalip and Muckleshoot nations.*

Seattle is a dynamic, urban city surrounded by unmatched natural beauty. It’s the largest city in Washington state and the Pacific Northwest Region of North America and is one of the nation’s fastest-growing large cities. At the UW, you’ll be near welcoming residential neighborhoods with parks and cafes, famous cultural attractions and the heart of the technology industry.

There’s always something to do in Seattle: we have major sports teams, a thriving arts and culture scene, world-class attractions and some of the most beautiful outdoor spaces in the Pacific Northwest.

While attending UW, you can explore the city’s diverse neighborhoods, enjoy nature (including more than 485 parks within city limits), shop at local boutiques, and visit some of our many museums (from the Museum of Pop Culture to Archie McPhee’s rubber chicken museum) all without ever leaving Seattle.

Food & Drink

The Pacific Northwest is known for fresh produce and chefs that are dedicated to locally-sourced ingredients.

Seattle has everything from upscale dining to teriyaki to-go, and local celebrity chefs bring their creative flavors to eateries around the city.

The city also boasts its fair share of breweries, cideries, soda makers, distilleries, and of course, coffee roasters. Seattle has been recognized as one of the top coffee cities in the world. Starbucks originated in Seattle, and the Starbucks Reserve Roastery & Tasting Room boasts a coffee library of single-origin beans. But there are plenty of independent coffee chains that have also made a big impact on the city, with creative brewing methods and unique espresso drinks. The options for delicious food and drink are endless.

Outdoors

There are plenty of ways to explore the outdoors in the Emerald City – from hiking, to biking, to kayaking, there’s something for everyone.

Hikers should check out Discovery Park, Mount Si and Mount Rainier, all within driving distance of the city and with options for casual day hikers, snowshoers and experienced climbers alike. For those who prefer biking or walking, there’s the 27-mile Burke-Gilman Trail that winds through many of Seattle’s northern neighborhoods.

Seattle is the fourth-largest port in North America which makes sense, since we’re surrounded by water. Our location makes it a great spot for sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding and more, which is a great way to explore during the sunny summer months.

Sports

In Seattle, there’s a team for just about every major sport. Most notably, the Seattle Seahawks our fans are so dedicated and loud when they cheer, they’re referred to as “the 12th man” (they even set a World Record at Lumen Field for the loudest crowd roar during a 2013 game).

Soccer fans have the Sounders FC and Reign FC matches, baseball fans have the Seattle Mariners, hockey fans have the newly debuted Seattle Kraken NHL team, and basketball fans have the four-time WNBA Champion-winning Seattle Storm team.

Along with the major professional sports, there’s always an exciting game to catch at UW. Go huskies!
