Medical School: UIC College of Medicine
Undergraduate School: University of Washington
Intern Program: 2019-2020, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, MCWAH - St. Joseph's Transition Year
Looking For In Residency: My primary aim for residency was to find a placed with a diverse and full case load to maximize my education. For this I was looking for a larger academic center with a broad patient population ideally including an associated children's hospital and VA. Alongside this, a program's reputation for its faculty and general satisfaction of the current resident cohort was key for ranking my choices. Beyond that, the location, of course, makes a difference and shouldn't be ignored, especially if it is where you will be spending the next 4-5 years.
UW Strengths: UW satisfies all the aims I mentioned above when I was searching for a residency program. In particular, UW sees just about everything in terms of cases within a very large academic/research center, which means there is a wealth of learning opportunities that a resident can choose to pursue as he or she sees fit for one's own education goals.
Advice: This is a tricky question to answer now as I am that incoming resident at the time of writing. But from what I've already experienced, do not stress preparing yourself for radiology during your intern year or during the move/transition at the beginning of radiology residency. With help from your resident peers and other staff, the transition at the beginning of radiology from orientation into your first rotation will go smoothly.
Hobbies: Food is a major hobby. Opportunities to eat new types of cuisine always have my attention. More importantly would be finding local specialty stores to cook new types of cuisine at home. I'm also an avid reader, mostly in long-form fiction, Sci-Fi and fantasy, and will try sneaking in a few pages between other duties. Music as well is very important to me and I hope to enjoy more of the local/live music when these events start again.
Clinical Interests: Mostly undecided. At this time I'm looking towards pursuing pediatric radiology most likely in an academic setting due to the patient population and diversity of procedures/imaging modalities that are used.
