Wellness and Social Life

We are extremely fortunate to have a very tight-knit resident community, one of highlights of our residency. Our resident social committee organizes events at least 3-4 times a year for the entire residency. Prior events include bowling, boating, holiday parties, driving at the golf range, karaoke, and so much more.

We also have annual radiology department holiday parties, a welcome party for new PGY-2 residents, and annual class dinners with the program directors, usually at their homes.

Weekly happy hours also take place every Thursday after didactics, with virtual happy hours continuing during the COVID crisis.

And we cannot forget our annual Resident Retreat, which traditionally takes place on a Thursday in February. All residents are given the day off work and take a bus together down to Crystal Mountain for a fun day of skiing, snow shoeing, and/or just hanging out and playing board games in the lodge. Families are always welcome to join. Program directors can also be spotted on the slopes.

Our program considers resident wellness from a variety of angles, with various systems built in to ensure residents feel empowered and supported. Upon entering the residency, PGY2 residents are matched with a faculty mentor and with a more senior “Big Sib” resident who routinely check in with their mentee. The residency has established Social Chairs for each class, and have a monetary budget to support any expenses associated with activities to get the residents together outside of the workday for fun and decompressing. We highly value the happiness and wellbeing of our deserving residents.
